in love is a transcription of a series of texts by claude closky, published in blog form under the title “welcome to my blog”. In its original form they are 365 short texts, one for each day of the year 2006 and uploaded as blog entries, each of them being a small description of the events of that day. These texts are not real entries but the result of a simple text-replacement strategy: a horoscope entry for that day was rewritten in the past-tense and every second-person pronoun replaced by a first-person pronoun, so “you take” is transformed to “I took”. All the texts have the same form: “At work…, In love…”.
These texts were resynthesized as audio by a computer and imitated by the flute at given intervals. The main interest of this procedure relies on the automatic translation of information from one medium to the other, as a measurement of the translation strategies of the software.
Between (behind) the speech fragments a background of echoes, conversations and love songs is articulated by the flute, mostly alone, sometimes with accompaniment.
